As an acne and hyperpigmentation specialist, I’m seeing these everywhere. But are you actually healing your skin, or just paying for a temporary glow?

First, the win: It’s alcohol-free and fragrance-free, which is a must for sensitised skin. However, we need to talk about Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate.

The Dr Leah moisturiser? I actually love this one. It’s non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, and supports the skin barrier—10/10 👏
The Garnier glow sunscreen has iron oxide, which is great for protecting against melasma and hyperpigmentation caused by visible light. But again, the fragrance and alcohol content aren’t ideal, especially for compromised skin.
At that price point, there are definitely better options out there.

The Accutane Nose Job: Is it medical fact or TikTok fiction? 👃

Following her viral podcast appearance this week, Kendall Jenner has the internet talking about her “Accutane Nose.” She claims the medication made her nose look slimmer and more refined, but as an acne and hyperpigmentation specialist, I’m here to give you the medical breakdown.

Accutane (Isotretinoin) is a powerhouse oral retinoid.

It works by:
Shrinking Sebaceous Glands: It drastically reduces oil production, especially in the T-zone.
De-congesting Pores: Normalising cell turnover, it prevents the puffy look caused by clogged pores and inflammation.
Thinning the Skin: It can slightly decrease the thickness of the nasal skin and subcutaneous tissue.

The Reality Check:
While Accutane can make your nose look more snatched by reducing swelling and oil bulk, it cannot shrink bone or reshape cartilage. Kendall is stunning, but Accutane isn’t a replacement for a structural rhinoplasty.
Perceived nose-shrinking is usually just the result of extreme de-puffing and the natural maturation of facial features as we move into our 30s.

Is your Oat Milk Latte keeping you in an acne cycle? ☕️🧴

If you’ve swapped dairy for oat milk to save your skin, you might want to read this. As a specialist in acne and hyperpigmentation, I see clients every day who are doing all the right things, but still battling stubborn inflammatory breakouts.

Oat milk isn’t bad, but it’s a High Glycemic Index (GI) food.

When you drink oat milk, it causes a rapid spike in your blood sugar. This triggers a surge in Insulin and IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1). These hormones send a direct signal to your sebaceous glands to produce more oil.

The Result?

Active Acne: More oil + trapped bacteria = more congestion.
Post-Acne Marks: Inflammation from diet-induced breakouts leads to more PIH (Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation), making those dark spots stay for months.
Hidden Additives: Many barista versions are packed with seed oils and hidden sugars that further fuel systemic inflammation.

You don’t have to give up your morning ritual, but you do need to be strategic.

Switch to Unsweetened Almond, Cashew, or Pea Milk (lower GI). If you can’t quit oats, look for oil-free and unsweetened brands. Pair your latte with a source of protein or healthy fat to blunt that glucose spike.

The overcompensation cycle - When you skip moisturiser, your skin’s surface becomes dehydrated. Your brain receives a signal that your skin barrier is leaking moisture, so it overcompensates. Your sebaceous glands go into overdrive, producing more sebum to coat the skin.

The greasy but tight paradox - The result? Skin that is greasy on top, but tight, flaky, and dull underneath. This oily-dehydrated state is the #1 cause of congested pores and skin texture issues.

Micro-cracks & inflammation - Without moisturiser, your barrier develops microscopic cracks. This allows acne-causing bacteria and environmental irritants to enter easily, triggering the inflammation that leads to cystic acne and Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH).

Slower healing times - Healthy, hydrated skin cells turn over (shed) more efficiently. If you want to lift dark spots and clear acne, you need moisture. Dry, stuck skin cells trap pigment and debris, keeping your skin in a breakout cycle for longer.

Switch to a non-comedogenic, oil-free gel moisturiser or a biocellulose sheet mask to hydrate without the weight 🧴✨
